I am incredibly opposed to overpacking.
It weighs down your luggage, clutters up your Disney resort room, and leaves less room for the souvenirs you actually want to bring home.
But there’s one thing worse than overpacking — and that’s underpacking.
That sinking feeling when you realize you forgot something vital. A portable charger. Prescription medication. The one pair of broken-in walking shoes you meant to grab.
That’s the kind of stress that can creep into an otherwise magical day at Walt Disney World.
But here’s your friendly reminder: there is almost nothing you need that can’t be delivered straight to your resort if it comes to that. Groceries, toiletries, even pharmacy items — it’s all accessible.
No stress on your Disney vacation.
So where’s the balance?
How do you know if you’re overpacking or underpacking?
When does being prepared slip into being obsessed?
I’m the friend here to give you guidance on how to do just the right amount of preparation.
You do not need three suitcases and a color-coded spreadsheet to survive Disney.
You just need the right things.
As a busy mom who loves living intentionally (even inside the Disney bubble), I’ve learned this:
The goal isn’t to pack everything.
The goal is to pack what actually makes your day smoother.
This is the only Disney packing list you need — no overthinking, no overwhelm.

1. Comfortable Shoes (This Is Non-Negotiable)
Disney is full of incredible attractions, amazing eateries, and unforgettable character sightings. I truly believe it’s one of the happiest, most magical places on Earth.
But when a place offers as much as Disney does… it’s going to be big.
On one trip, I walked 42 miles in six days.
Forty-two.
I don’t know about you, but that is far more than my normal week. One day alone, I hit almost ten miles — we did the four-park challenge (which I highly recommend every Disney enthusiast try at least once).
Between rushing to make a show, checking in for your Lightning Lane window, and walking from one end of the park to the other, the miles add up fast. And once you finally arrive at an attraction? You’re likely standing in line for a while.
That’s why your shoes are not the place to compromise and why these are number one on my Disney packing list.
It is non-negotiable to intentionally think through your shoe options and bring something versatile, supportive, and — above all — comfortable.
My go-to shoe again and again when we take Disney trips are the New Balance Fresh Foam Roav V1’s.

2. Cooling Towels: The Tiny Thing That Makes a Huge Difference
Florida heat is no joke.
Even if you’re used to warm weather, there’s something about the combination of humidity, direct sun, and miles of walking at Walt Disney World that hits differently.
You can be fully hydrated, well-rested, and still feel that slow melt happening by 2:00 PM.
This is where cooling towels come in and why they are a must have on anyone’s Disney packing list.
They are one of those small, lightweight items that feel unnecessary… until you use one.
A quick rinse in cold water, wring it out, snap it a few times — and suddenly you have instant relief around your neck. It’s not dramatic. It’s not glamorous.
But it works.
I’ve used them:
- While waiting in long outdoor queues
- During parades in full sun
- On bus rides back to the resort
- And especially during those mid-afternoon “why are we so hot?” moments
They are also incredibly helpful for kids. Sometimes all it takes is cooling down physically to reset emotionally.
And that’s the kind of simple win we’re looking for.
Not overpacking.
Not bringing a portable fan the size of a small appliance.
Just one intentional item that makes the day smoother.
When choosing one, look for:
- Lightweight, quick-drying fabric
- Compact storage pouch
- Multipack options (so everyone gets one)
They take up almost no space in your park bag — but they can absolutely change the tone of your afternoon.

3. The Right Park Bag (Not Too Big, Not Too Small)
Your backpack can either make your Disney day smoother…
Or it can slowly ruin it.
I have seen it happen both ways.
The giant, overstuffed bag that weighs a ton by 11:00 AM. The bottomless pit where no one can find sunscreen. The shoulder straps digging in after miles of walking…
Remember — you are already walking 5–8 miles a day at Walt Disney World.
You do not need to carry your entire house on your back.
But you also don’t want to be the mom who packed nothing and now needs everything.
This is where balance matters.
What Makes a Good Disney Park Backpack?
Here’s what I personally look for:
- Lightweight material
- Comfortable, padded straps
- Easy-access pockets
- A water bottle holder
- Just enough room for essentials — not extras
That’s it.
If the bag is too big, you will fill it.
If it’s structured and slightly limited, it forces you to be intentional.
And that’s the sweet spot.
What I Actually Keep in Mine
I always carry these things:
- Portable charger
- Cooling towels
- Sunscreen stick
- Small first-aid pouch (Band-Aids + blister care)
- Ponchos (if rain is in the forecast)
- A few snacks that are temperature tolerant
- Hair clips for when I get too hot or it rains
- Wallet + sunglasses
Notice what’s not in there?
Three outfit changes.
Full makeup bag.
Six “just in case” items.
Your resort room is not that far away. Gift shops sell basics. And almost anything can be delivered if needed.
The goal is freedom — not preparedness anxiety.
4. Portable Chargers (Because Disney Drains Batteries Fast)
The My Disney Experience app basically puts Walt Disney World in the palm of your hand.
Reservations.
Lightning Lanes.
Mobile food ordering.
Wait times.
Park maps.
Transportation schedules.
It’s incredibly convenient.
But there is no denying — it drains your battery fast.
There is nothing magical about watching your phone drop to 12% at 3:30 PM when you still have dinner reservations and an evening Lightning Lane to manage.
That’s not the kind of thrill we’re looking for.
Now, here’s where intentional packing matters.
I do not need a super bulky, heavy charger that can charge my phone seven times from dead to full. That’s over the top. It takes up space and adds weight to my bag.
What I do need is a small, lightweight charger that can recharge my phone once or twice throughout the day.
That’s it.
Just enough power to carry me from rope drop to fireworks.

With all of us booking Lightning Lanes, watching wait times, checking show schedules, and ordering quick-service meals, we each need at least one recharge per day.
It’s one of those items you don’t think about… until you really, really need it.
And when you need it, you’re very glad you packed it.
5. Rain Gear (It Will Rain)
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but…
It rains.
A lot.
In Orlando.
You can check the forecast all you want, but my number one piece of advice is this: assume it is going to rain at least once during your park day at Walt Disney World.
The good news? Most Florida showers only last 10–15 minutes. You can usually duck into a shop, step under an overhang, or grab a snack and wait it out.
But sometimes… you can’t.
Sometimes you’re:
- About to check in for a hard-to-get dining reservation
- Standing in the middle of a long outdoor queue
- Walking across the park with no cover in sight
And that’s when being prepared matters.
For that reason, I always throw ponchos into my park bag.
Not multiples per person.
Not heavy rain jackets.
Just one lightweight poncho for each of us.
That’s it.
Simple. Intentional. Effective.

What You Don’t Need to Pack
Let’s talk about what doesn’t need to go in your suitcase.
Because sometimes knowing what to leave behind is just as important as knowing what to bring.
You do not need:
- Four pairs of park shoes
- A full makeup bag
- Multiple outfit changes per day
- Every “just in case” item you own
- A week’s worth of snacks in your park bag
Overpacking doesn’t make you more prepared.
It makes mornings chaotic.
It makes your Disney resort room feel cluttered.
It makes it harder to find what you actually need.
And it makes unpacking at the end of your trip feel overwhelming instead of joyful.
Remember — you are staying in a fully functioning resort area at Walt Disney World.
There are gift shops.
There are grocery delivery services.
There are pharmacies.
If you truly forget something, you are not stranded in the wilderness.
Disney is designed to make things convenient.
So instead of packing out of fear, pack with intention.
Bring what will:
- Keep you comfortable
- Keep your phone charged
- Help you handle heat and rain
- Make the day smoother
Leave the rest at home.
The goal is freedom.
The goal is calm mornings.
The goal is enjoying the magic — not managing your luggage.
