
We’ve all been there: the calendar is double-booked, the laundry is piling up, and the thought of a 60-minute gym session feels more like a burden than a blessing.
In the past, I used to have an “all or nothing” mentality. If I couldn’t do the full workout, I did nothing at all. But living intentionally has taught me that consistency isn’t about intensity; it’s about identity. It’s about showing up for yourself, even in small ways, to prove that your wellbeing is a priority.
Here is how I stay consistent with fitness and keep my movement goals on track when life gets loud.

1. The “Ten-Minute Rule”
When I’m overwhelmed, I tell myself I only have to move for ten minutes. Usually, once I start, I keep going. But on the truly chaotic days? Those ten minutes of stretching or a brisk walk on my walking pad are enough.

2. Habit Stacking
I look for “pockets” in my existing routine. I’ll do calf raises while waiting for the coffee to brew or a few sun salutations while my bath water is running. By attaching movement to things I’m already doing, fitness becomes a seamless and consistent part of my day rather than an extra chore.

On busy days, I don’t worry about “gym clothes.” If I have five minutes between meetings, I’m doing air squats in my work pants or stretching in my jeans. Removing the need to change, drive somewhere, and shower afterward makes it much easier to say “yes” to movement.

4. Redefining Fitness
On my simplest days, fitness doesn’t look like a barbell; it looks like:

There are seasons in my life where I can consistently hit the gym and seasons in my life when it is all I can do to walk around my office or jog up the stairs a few times to hit my movement goals. It has taken time and maturity to learn how to give myself grace and redefine what fitness means to me. The results of that mental shift have been incredible and I encourage you to redefine fitness as whatever you intentionally make it.
